Charlotte Fruit Shopping
Charlotte’s newest household responsibility is to do the fruit shopping while I get the vegetables and meat at our local grocery shop. She loves guava.
Come back to the trunk, Charlotte.
Yesterday I had to run over to the office – which is just three houses down from us now – and when I came back I saw Rosie on the second story balcony looking into our mango tree. I followed her gaze and saw a figure up in the mango tree almost on level with…
The Year in Board Games
Our family loves playing board games! We especially enjoy cooperative ones like Pandemic or The Fairy Game, though this year we didn’t play any pandemic. We had enough pandemic in real life. As we looked back over our photos from the last year I thought that I’d share some of the board games we’ve played….
Online Schooling Again
This is our fourth COVID-19 lockdown and I’ve think we’re finally getting this online schooling thing down. Charlotte is doing well on the individual attention but Catherine really misses her friends. They do, for the most part, get along really well. I don’t think I was this sweet to my siblings when I was their…
Little Office Workers
The girls love visiting Pou Cheang, Sumo the cat, and Ramy at the office. But, over the last weeks, we’ve started to put them to work! Watering plants, cleaning, and shredding really old documents! (Don’t worry – we send the historic program documents to the archives in Akron, Pennsylvania.)

Last week, Charlotte and I walked out to buy some vegetable and fruit from a local stall. On the way we stopped to look at some cleaned and sliced fish that had been set out to dry in the sun. Since Charlotte found it interesting I thought that you might as well. I’ll see if…
Christmas 2020 preparations
It doesn’t feel like it but Christmas 2020 is just next week! Since Thanksgiving, the girls have enjoyed decorating the house, making holiday crafts, and baking cookies. And, of course, lots and lots of dress up! In November and early December there were two new outbreaks of COVID-19 in Cambodia. So things have been locked…
Playdough Artist
Per COVID-19 protocols, after our recent bout of illness, Charlotte had to stay home from School until she was completely symptom free and cleared by a Doctor. That ended up being about two weeks. In that time she fully made some progress on Playdough mastery (well, she at least impressed her dad!).
Sick, again, over Pchum Ben
Pchum Benh is a long series of ceremonies honoring the dead. The week long holiday is actually the conclusion of these ceremonies when most Cambodians travel back to their ancestral homelands and perform ceremonies to honor their ancestors. I’ll write a more detailed post on this another time but in Phnom Penh it is the…
