Sulphur Soap

on

File this one under tips for living in a tropical developing country.

As you likely recall, I had a very slow recovery from Chikungunya and my immune system was low for a long time. During my recovery I noticed that I had little red spots on my limbs. It was hard not to notice, they were itchy and uncomfortable. At first I thought they were a flurry of mosquito bites but soon realized that they appeared on my legs and feet, where my socks protect me from mosquitos.

I tried all of my usual techniques for cleaning my skin to no avail; hot water and soap, tea tree oil, antiseptics, hydrogen peroxide. Then I did a parasite cleanse. We usually take an anti-parasite every six months (or as needed) just in case. It didn’t have an effect. The red dots persisted.

The little red dots were developing into a rash and I was starting to get frustrated when I noticed Sulphur Soap at a local pharmacy. The box boasted that this was a Germicide, Fungicide, and Parasiticide. Oh, also Anti-Acne; which, according to the internet, is apparently why most people buy it. So I thought, hey I’ll give it a try.

I lathered it on and the redness immediately began to fade. A little over a week of washing with Sulphur Soap and it was completely gone. Later, I learned that I probably had ‘under the skin mites’, also known as Scabies. Sulphur cream – and soap – is a well known cure for them. A well known cure that I hadn’t know about, but now I know and so do you.

This came back to my mind recently because I had another batch of red dots appear in a cluster on my left index finger – of all places – and had to break out the Sulphur Soap again. It’s rewarding to see them fade visibly away day by day.

So, yes, I fully recommend Sulphur Soap. It’s not just for acne. Have some on hand for mites and other skin maladies while living in the tropics.

This was very interesting. Glad you found something that finally worked. I don’t recall ever hearing of Sulphur soap. I intend to see if I can find a bar, with berry picking season around the corner, chiggers will be out. It sounds like it might work on them as well. Thank you!

I had a rash once after wading chest deep through flood waters. Apparently there’s a parasite that can go all the way into cattle but can only affect skin surface of humans. I think I wound up using Asepso soap? Don’t remember. But glad you found something that worked.

That would do it! I had a weird rash after helping pull that car out of the flood in 2020 too. Parasites are not fun. Not even if they can’t make it all the way in. Oh, I’ve seen Asepso around! I’ll have it to add it to my repertoire.
