No Longer Undocumented.

Caleb is no longer an undocumented person!  After many weeks, visits, reminders and some financial incentive, the local authority has issued his birth certificate in Khmer language and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has translated it into English!

Next stop – the US Embassy for passport and Certificate of Birth Abroad.  I just submitted not only applications for those documents, but proof of marriage to Charles, his passport and visa, my passport and visa, photos of our family and all my prenatal records to prove he is ours.  Hopefully we will get a call soon to go in for an appointment.

Once we have the passport, we have to apply for an exit visa to leave the country. We have 7 days to leave the country once we get the exit visa.

We plan to go to Thailand.  We plan to get a C Visa from the Cambodian embassy in Thailand so that Caleb can be on our same visa. If that goes according to plan, he cannot leave Cambodia for 3 months while we extend his visa to be a multiple-entry C visa for 1 year, which is what we have.

Far from being undocumented, Caleb’s existence and legality is being thoroughly documented.

Glad progress is being made! I remember mailing off 150 pages of documents and evidence once for a visa. Can’t remember if that was for me to marry Esther or for her to immigrate to the US.

Such a fun and interesting read! Although, I’m sure every step for you is a hurdle!
