Bua Tong Sticky Waterfalls

While we were in Thailand we traveled about an hour and a half out of Chiang Mai to visit the Bua Tong Sticky Waterfalls. When the MCC Nepal Reps first invited us to join them we had no idea what sticky waterfalls were… It turns out that they are waterfalls in the jungle that have left behind limestone deposits. The limestone is not quite sticky but it does provide fantastic traction.

This traction allows one to climb the waterfall in spectacular fashion. Which Charlotte and Catherine did again and again and again and again and again. I climbed up the waterfall with them once but they were often out of sight having sprinted ahead of me.

There were a few sections that were slippery with algae growth and lighter on limestone deposits but the park installed ropes here to allow climbers to continue upwards.

The mountainside (if you’re from Cambodia) or hillside (if you’re from Nepal) was covered in beautiful jungle. There were a lot of other tourists and we didn’t see any critters (aside from birds), but that doesn’t mean that they weren’t there.

So that was fun. I didn’t know we were going to have the opportunity to climb a waterfall but life is full of pleasant surprises.
