As has become tradition, two weekends ago we joined the ‘GSL’ team for a photoshoot in traditional Khmer clothing. GSL stands for Global Service Learning; it’s the department that our YAMEN and SALT exchange program fits under.
There are a number of shops in Phnom Penh where you can inexpensively rent traditional Khmer outfits and have your photo taken. They then photoshop in remarkable backgrounds.
The MCC group here represents 4 continents, 7 countries, and 5 Mennonite conferences. The YAMEN participants supported various partners including the Cambodian Rural Development Team, Voice of Love FM (largest Christian radio station in Cambodia), Prey Veng Female Disabled Federation, and Operation HOPE orphanage.
In case you were wondering, the lovely peach shirt is the only one they had in my size.
We’re going to miss this group of YAMEN participants. They have really been wonderful to get know and they have a wonderful group dynamic – always encouraging one another with a sisterhood that bridges cultures. But we’re also looking forward to meeting the next class of YAMEN/SALT participants who will arrive in August.
Very interesting, thanks Charles
