Last night our new Peace Coordinators arrived at the Phnom Penh airport after a harrowing journey from the other side of the world.
Their first flight had ‘technical difficulties’… Which is the tactful way to say that it collided with another plane while taxing at the Philadelphia airport. This delayed their departure from Philadelphia causing them to miss their connecting flight in Boston. This in turn pushed their final arrival time back 24 hours.
The Royal Government of Cambodia requires that foreigners entering the country have negative COVID-19 test results dated within 72 hours of departure. Their delayed first flight met that requirement by two hours. However, there’s a lot of confusion around the COVID-19 testing requirement with some Immigration officials and some airlines claiming it’s 72 hours of arrival.
When they boarded their first international flight in Los Angeles the airline warned them that Cambodia would not accept their test results and that they would be immediately deported. Fortunately, they were able to sign a waiver that the airline was not liable and were permitted to continue on their journey. I’ve heard that Korea Air has been refusing to allow passengers to board so, thankfully, the flight was not with them.
We felt a spiritual heaviness that lifted after Crystal asked for prayers around this. Again, we feel your prayers carrying us through difficult situations. Thank you.
Fortunately, we were able to explain the situation at the airport Immigration office and they were allowed in. They’re in government quarantine now waiting for their results of their on arrival COVID-19 test. If no one on their plane comes back positive they will then be released to self quarantine for two weeks. Then there’s one more COVID-19 test and they’re able to travel freely.
Carried by Crystal’s requested prayer, buoyed by the Spirit, assisted by your feedback and presence, Charles, the phrase,”…arriving on a wing and a prayer” seems descriptive here! Praise God!
wow! harrowing journey indeed!
So glad they have gotten safely this far. Prayers to be led safely on.
