Guests to the morning ceremonies at a Cambodian wedding are often fed a hearty breakfast of rice porridge. This traditional breakfast food is inexpensive and simple to make, just cook rice longer than normal in four times as much liquid as normal. Rice & Pork and Kuy Teav are more common breakfasts for sale, while rice porridge is a homemade staple.

The wedding version is a bit more elaborate with pieces of meat, some herbs, and an array of savory toppings. Homemade versions might be made with broth but rarely include meat.

Rice porridge is also the go-to meal when someone in the home is sick. It’s hot and easy to digest. Then just throw in some garlic and soy sauce for added nutrition.
Similar to Laotian …once I was invited over for”old people” food and this is what I was served with a little fish on top…
It can be quite good or quite bland, depending on how it is prepared.
