I wanted to give you a quick update on Charlotte’s Bike Injury. We had a check-up at the Doctor yesterday and, as you can see, it has been healing well. There’s still some swelling around the ankle and one wound that’s still open.
Charlotte’s been quite enthusiastic about physical activities since returning to school despite the injury. This has been problematic with keeping the wound clean – her bandage seems to come off much more often at school. At the check-up, the Doctor gave us some special wrapping and bandages to help with this. She still isn’t allowed to swim at school until the open wound seals.
Charlotte remains very afraid of medical care. We have talked through it again and again, but her fear of pain is worse than the physical pain at this point. The Doctor yesterday (Dr. Lucy) was wonderful about this, so gentle as she cleaned the wound. Even Charlotte admitted afterwards that it barely hurt but her anxiety manifested just as extreme as with the painful initial cleaning several weeks ago. Later, she woke up afraid in the middle of the night and spent a good 45 minutes being comforted by Crystal. I think we just keep on emphasizing the message that medical care for injuries can be scary and painful, but that it’s healthy and necessary.
Thanks for the update and I am glad she is healing so well. Dr visits will come easier in time. Keep doing what you are doing.
Sending healing thoughts…..
Thanks for the update. Nicole had a similar issue on the posterior aspect of her heel when she was 2 in Takeo. I felt so bad and it took 2 weeks before she walked and one month to heal (no pun intended). I don’t even know if she remembers it. I’ll have to ask her! – Sherry
Glad you are taking care of her. Prayers are with you all!
Glad to hear it is healing well!
