National Scarf of Cambodia

I’ve had a few people ask me about the scarf that I’ve been wearing lately… It’s a Krama! Pronounced Krah-mah. The Krama is the national scarf of Cambodia and the second most prominent symbol of the Khmer people. (The most prominent being the temple complex of Angkor Wat.)

The krama is a highly durable and breathable piece of fabric. It’s great for dealing with sun, dust, and rain. It won’t keep you warm but that’s not much of a problem in Cambodia.

I couldn’t find a photo but I often saw it used as a makeshift rope or bag. My favorite was when someone on a moto held one end to pull along someone else on a bike.
